Obtaining Experience

My professional experience was developed through job and internship opportunities, varying from interning with a federal law enforcement agency to tutoring students in Mandarin Chinese. As a result of these opportunities, I was able to develop numerous skills, including data collection, research, providing logistical support, group collaboration, editing, and analysis.

In undergrad, I worked as a student assistant where I planned and provided logistical support for student orientations and other events, administrative support, writing newsletters, and coordinating the Dean’s and advisors’ meetings.  Likewise, while interning with the Hudson Institute, I drafted and edited policy memos and reports in addition to conducting intensive research. This internship allowed me to support collaborative data collection and assist in researching potential threats.

I further expanded my experience after participating in two government internships. In 2014, I worked as a Cold Case Intern with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation handling unsolved murder cases. As a result of my research, a suspect was indicted and I obtained experience in analyzing something previously deemed unsolvable. I also became familiar with coordinating with others and acting as a liaison while conducting special agent responsibilities with my internship with ATF. In addition, I actively worked to prevent violence and intervene against potential threats. As a result of these experiences, I am now comfortable providing logistical support, working with others, and also conducting research and analysis.
